Project: Frog Quest

School: Indian Creek Middle School

Frog Quest project, which will investigate frog malformation, is scheduled to begin in the spring of 1999 and is organized as a "Webquest" that will be available to our seventh grade students on our local Internet server during the first year. Multiple subject matter will be involved in this project, such as, Science, Math, Language Art, Fine Art, Technology Skills, and Media Skills.

A variety of technologies will be integrated into the activities of this project, such as laptop computer, digital cameras and video cameras, portable phones and walkie-talkies. Students will use database and spreadsheet programs to analyze the data, use word processors and publishing programs to create journals and newsletters, research information using the WWW, create web presence in support of the project and use classroom email to communicate with partners. Finally, students will use technology to produce their final reports and presentations.

Goals for students to be achieved with this project:

  • To give students a chance to practice, participate, and contribute to a real scientific investigation within their own neighborhoods
  • To become aware of the interconnectedness among disciplines in the solving of problems
  • To empower students with technology in the curriculum as they make connections between academic studies and real life
  • To foster pride and ownership in the school and community
  • Frog Day
